![]() So much was (and is) my dislike of Alien 3 (aka Alien and the Three Stooges) that I suggested he open with Ripley waking up in the shower. Personal anecdote: Joss was going off next to write Alien 4. In any case, it would have been a small part of what he did. Joss may well have fine-tuned the Sid character, but I'd also like to hear the source on that claim. That came later, and was the work of our story team, mostly John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, Joe Ranft, and Jeff Pidgeon. ![]() ![]() The big rewrite that saved the picture after Disney shut it down was not done in script pages, but in boards and reels. I don't recall what all of them are, but I'm pretty sure "Oh, great. Joss took that and turned it into a cohesive script and, as you'd guess, came up with a lot of the great bits of dialogue. It was pretty funny – a room with people hunched over a few laptops and Mac Classics, running different word processors, each working on a chunk of the script. John didn't want Joss to waste time with the crummy, kid-centered draft so a bunch of us had an intensive rewrite marathon to pound the script back into something sort of useful. If you had just read the script for Buffy the Vampire Slayer you'd have hired him, too. Might be, but here's something from Craig Good, supervising layout artist.Īfter the two writers Disney hired, who I will not name, had done all the damage they could to the script, we managed to get rid of them and get Joss to come in to do a draft. If you don't believe this explain why Disney Animation Studios between 20, the period of time when Circle 7 was formed, had multiple films produced in 3D in house, they didn't need another studio for these Pixar productions which they already owned. Disney basically created a studio with no real intentions on ever using it other than to possibly kill franchises so that Pixar would never be able to use them again if they some how figured out a way to get them back at a later date. The Circle 7 Studio was also nothing but a veiled threat by Disney towards Pixar because Disney knew even with Jobs and Eisner at each others throats Catmull and Lasseter would do everything in their power to prevent Disney from taking direct control of follow up projects to Pixar films, especially Lasseter who didn't see eye to eye with Jobs' decision to cut off from Disney. To be fair, Circle 7 was dead the minute Eisner was booted out and Disney and Pixar merged. We have an entire book of animatics for TS3 in the garage somewhere, not sure if I can legally post it though.ĮDIT: Here's some more concept art from the movie, including the original bank robbery sequence: (from )ĮDIT 2: I just realized those images are in the first article too, but I'll leave the Imgur album I made here anyway. He's still pretty pissed off about it, but what's he gonna do, sue Disney? HA He never got any sort of credit for it in the final version. Here's a huge article on the whole thing and how it went down with even more pictures and concept art for both movies: Īlso, you know the opening sequence in TS3 with the train robbery? My Dad wrote that entire sequence at Circle 7 but it was a bank robbery. They also wrote a first draft for 'Monster's Inc. ![]() My Dad was one of the two writers who were re-writing this script at Circle 7 right before Disney shut it down. I have mixed feelings as he has turned things around so much and I don't quite see who could fill his shoes, but if he stays around forever it could be another Eisner. Pixar / LucasFilm (ILM) / Disney Feature Animation while all run separately are now sharing their new technological creations with each other and growing quickly with what they can do and the speed they can do it at. Pixar was actually a little side project of LucasFilm that Steve Jobs bought back in the day, so they are now back under the same company again. Eisner was basically who helped along the first, but many considered he was just there too long and went downhill. Iger has done a whole lot with the company under his watch, and what I would consider the Second (and biggest) Disney Renaissance. There was a lot of other stuff happening within the board at this time as well wanting Eisner out.įinally he was talked into 'passing on the torch' to Iger and soon after Pixar was under the Disney bubble.
